Pay & Benefits

In addition to competitive salaries, generous leave allowances, staff development and an excellent working environment there are numerous other benefits that contribute to the total reward package for staff, which make Edge Hill University an excellent place to work for both existing and potential colleagues. Our employees are eligible to take part in our benefits scheme, where you can access numerous discounts some of which include, Edge Hill Sport Membership, Cycle to Work Scheme, Season Tickets, Shopping Discounts, Children’s Holiday Club, Beauty and Massage Therapist and many more.

Employee Well-being 

The wellbeing of our staff it a top priority, we have Mental Health First Aid staff fully trained, our Occupational Health and Counselling services will offer support through difficult times.  The Chaplaincy will support staff of all faith or none, helping to create a welcoming community on campus and our sport center offers a range of fitness classes that include yoga and relaxation classes. 

Holidays and Work Life Balance 

Providing a work life balance for staff is important to us and we offer generous holiday entitlements and for some staff access to our flexible working scheme.

  • Academic and Management Contracts receive 35* days annual leave per annum
  • Support Staff receive between 22* and 29* days annual leave per annum dependent on grade and length of service. Along with the opportunity, where business needs permit, to benefit from a flexible working scheme.

In addition all staff are entitled to 13 statutory, extra-statutory and concessionary holidays.

*Note: Entitlements are pro-rata for part-time/part-year staff


For most staff groups pay is set at a national level and the University adopts the pay agreements negotiated by the sector’s recognised Employers’ Association who facilitate the discussions concerning pay awards between the employers and the recognised trade unions.


Edge Hill University makes a significant contribution to the defined benefit pensions schemes alongside individual contributions, making them a significant part of the pay and benefits package available to staff. As well as providing for a pension, the schemes also make provision for other benefits such as life cover and ill-health retirement.

Academic staff are eligible to join the Teachers’ Pension Scheme whilst other staff are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Existing current members of the Universities Superannuation Scheme may continue to contribute to this scheme.
