Your discipline. Your passion. Our success, together.

About You

We seek an enthusiastic, experienced academic with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our Medical School academic team. You must be an independent prescriber as evidenced by your qualifications and commensurate with your PSRB specific requirements. You should have significant experience in teaching in this area of practice, preferably with experience in higher education. However, we will consider applicants who have relevant teaching experience in practice.

To be successful in this role, you will further enrich our student’s experience through your expertise and subject knowledge, as evidenced through your qualifications and professional experience. In return, you will join a forward thinking and dynamic team that pushes the boundaries of curriculum development within the new Medical School.  As a Senior Lecturer, you will also be required to take on some leadership roles as deemed appropriate by your Head of Department.

Our research profile is expanding and our staff are required to engage in this activity with mentorship support, as appropriate, from our research theme leaders.

We will consider applications from those interested in full time or part time appointments.

About the Role

This post is to support the expansion and development of Edge Hill University’s Medical School at an exciting time in its evolution. We wish to appoint a GPhC registered pharmacist who is also a pharmacist independent prescriber or a registered healthcare professional who is an independent and supplementary prescriber.

The Medical School offers an extensive portfolio of postgraduate modules and programmes. Our MB ChB 5 year programme commenced in September 2020, following implementation of a foundation year for medicine programme in 2019. We also offer an MSc in Physician Associate Studies. We work closely with PSRBs and Health Education England.

The schools’ philosophy for working is that staff work across the continuum of our undergraduate and postgraduate provision, giving staff variety in engagement, but ensuring that specific expertise is appropriately deployed. Experience of teaching and learning within a higher educational setting is preferable or evidence of the delivery of teaching to and education of healthcare professionals.

Providing a high-quality student experience is our primary aim and the successful candidate must have sustained excellence in student engagement and support. This post holder will have significant involvement in the leadership, organisation, delivery and quality assurance of our Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) Programme, offered at levels 6 and 7, the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) and the Prescribing Medicines Safely vertical theme for the MBChB. The successful candidate will provide greater capacity/subject expertise to deliver on this provision, enhancing the student experience by providing excellent and effective teaching that is embedded in current, evidence-based practice, supporting students to achieve their full potential and preparing them for safe and effective practice throughout their clinical career.

The successful candidate will also work across other programmes and modules in the Medical School as required and will report to the Head of PG Medical Education within the Medical School.

The successful candidate will be an experienced/excellent teacher and will have a PGC in Learning & Teaching in HE (or equivalent) and FHEA status or be able gain both within 2 years of appointment. A strong understanding of the current regulations, standards and guidance for NMP applied to nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals and the ability to teach pharmacology and NMP associated subjects are essential. Contribution to the Prescribing Safely vertical theme in the MB ChB is required commensurate with GMC guidance.
