About You

This position provides an excellent opportunity for you to share your expertise and lead a key area of the Faculty’s learning and teaching strategy whilst enhancing your career. Therefore, we are seeking a committed, creative and forward-thinking experienced simulation educator to join our dynamic team where you will be supported to thrive.  With significant experience of providing simulation-based education programmes, as well as managing a related education facility, you will demonstrate confidence as a flexible, positive and visionary leader. 

You will have at minimum a higher degree qualification relevant to the post, or equivalent service related experience within the field of simulation-based education. You will be an experienced qualified health care practitioner with a teaching qualification or evidence of capacity to achieve a teaching qualification. It is desirable that you will be able to demonstrate a commitment to undertake PhD studies. 

Current registration with either The Nursing and Midwifery Council or the Health and Care Professions Council is essential.  Similarly, you will be experienced as a Registered Practitioner and simulation-based educator with an understanding of teaching and supporting students in higher education. You will enjoy a challenge and thrive on new opportunities and experiences, stretching your talents and developing your expertise in tandem with sound emotional intelligence and a keen drive to work collegiately with peers and students alike. Excellent communication skills with an ability to be flexible and responsive in a team are crucial to the role. 

About the Role 

The Faculty of Health & Social Care provides a range of professional programmes across a broad spectrum of related fields of practice. These programmes embrace the postgraduate, undergraduate and apprenticeship provision within medicine, nursing, allied health professions and applied health & social care arenas. Our portfolio also addresses pre-registration and post-qualifying programmes to support advanced practice, masters level and specialist practice educational provision. All programmes utilise practice-based learning opportunities, requiring engagement with practice partners to ensure the currency of current and future provision. We have an excellent reputation for providing a very high quality student experience, which is reflected in our excellent student and stakeholder feedback.

Based largely on the successful expansion of undergraduate and postgraduate and apprenticeship provision; we are seeking to make an academic appointment to enhance our Faculty leadership. The successful applicant will join a dynamic and innovative team and will make a major contribution to the leadership, management and delivery of clinical learning, skills and simulation-based education of undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes. This expanding portfolio of education programmes provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced simulation and clinical skills manager to utilise their leadership skills to drive forward the Faculty’s simulation-based education strategy and ensure a collaborative, quality assured and sustainable approach to simulation training and education. The post holder will ensure the contemporary nature of the provision across all programmes and effectively manage the delivery of programme specific requirements.

A key aspect of the role will be to lead the strategic development and management of a new state of the art Simulation and Skills Education Centre and work in tandem with all Heads of Departments to ensure the facility meets student needs. You will be responsible for the effective leadership of simulation-based learning opportunities and for ensuring all simulation and skills education facilities, and equipment, to support curriculum delivery.

The post holder will undertake management responsibilities for staff and facilitate staff capability to deliver innovative and creative teaching, learning and assessment across the portfolio of education. This is a key role in the faculty and will play a critical role in networking and sharing of good practice which will include collaborative working with practice partners.

The Faculty is rapidly developing a strong research profile, whereby scholarly endeavours focus upon key research themes which inform safe and effective practices. Typically, students on all our health and social care programmes gain an understanding of all aspects of health and ill health throughout the human life span, and in all social arenas.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a Faculty with a growing research culture and portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes which address key workforce challenges. You will be expected to make a contribution to research in line with Faculty research theme.
