About You

With strong programming skills you will have had exposure to computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning and Artificial Intelligence. Knowledge of deep learning and hands-on experience with one or more deep learning tools (e.g. TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch) is desirable. 

To be successful, you will have strong scientific interest and self-motivation, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. You will also be organised, creative and have excellent communication skills.

About the Role

Major improvements in crop performance are needed to keep pace with population growth (which is driving up global food demand) and climate change (which is increasing the vulnerability of cropping systems to extreme weather events). You will work within a team of computer scientists on the DeepEarNet project (Accurate Segmentation and Measurement of Cereal Grain Spikes Directly in Point Clouds Using Latest Deep Learning and Domain Knowledge), funded by PhenomUK, the Technology Touching Life Network. The project aims to develop an open source package to facilitate the estimation of wheat production yields.
