Research Assistant - Computer Science

About You

You will have a strong, scientific interest, along with self-motivation and a willingness to work as a team player within an interdisciplinary setup. You will be qualified to degree standard in a relevant subject area and have strong programming skills (e.g. Python, Sci-kit and Linux) with exposure to computer vision, machine learning and deep learning. 

Knowledge of deep learning and hands-on-experience with one or more deep learning tools (e.g. TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, Theano, Caffe, Scikit-Learn etc.) would be desirable.

To be successful you should have appropriate technical, organisational, communicative, and creative skills, and knowledge of agile, iterative and data-driven methodology for developing software solutions. In return, you will have the opportunity to enhance your research experience and develop your skills in reinforcement learning and deep learning. 

About the Role

You will be working on an Edge Hill University funded Project entitled “DeepHEC: Deep Reinforcement Learning for Hand-Eye Coordination". The project will focus on developing algorithms solving the hand-eye coordination problem which is about controlling robotic arms by using visual feedback from cameras to carry out various pick and place tasks. You will support in designing and developing novel reinforcement learning algorithms with inputs from the involved Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Robotics researchers within the Computer Science department.
