About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to deliver a 3-year ESRC-funded research project lead by Dr Calum Hartley (PI) in collaboration with Dr John Shaw (Co-I, Edge Hill University), Dr Mengyi Gong (Co-I, Lancaster University), and partners at Ygam, Internet Matters, and ADHD UK.

The project will investigate how primary school children engage with video games, microtransactions and loot boxes, including the developmental and wellbeing risks for children with ADHD and autism. Although gaming and in-game purchasing are widespread among UK children, little is known about how loot-box engagement develops, its wider psychological effects or which children are most vulnerable.

Developed with Ygam, Internet Matters and ADHD UK, the research will:

• Identify patterns and predictors of gaming and loot-box engagement, including among children with ADHD and autism;

• Assess the long-term effects on mental and physical health, risk-taking and vulnerability to gambling;

• Explore whether caregivers’ gaming and loot-box behaviours predict similar behaviours in their children; and

• Understand what drives children’s interest in in-game items and their motivations for opening loot boxes.

The findings will strengthen understanding of gaming and microtransactions within families and support evidence-based interventions and policy. Partner collaboration will ensure meaningful engagement and help translate the research into online resources for families and educators, policy briefings, knowledge-exchange events and wider digital communications.

About You

As Research Associate you will:

•Have experience conducting research involving in-person interactions with neurotypical and neurodivergent children.

•Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the skills required to manage research projects effectively.

•A strong understanding of ethics and data protection regulations in relation to research activity involving children.

•Be willing to engage in Open Science practices, including pre-registering research and data sharing.

•Be willing to disseminate research to non-academic audiences and stakeholders.

As Soft Services Operations Manager, you will play a vital leadership role within the Facilities Management team, overseeing the day-to-day delivery of cleaning, portering, waste management and warehouse services across the University.

You will lead and develop the Soft Services team, ensuring services are well organised, customer-focused and aligned with the University’s FM Vision. About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of Edge Hill Sports. In this role, you’ll be the first point of contact for many of the Centre’s users, providing both administrative support and frontline service. Delivering excellent customer care in both the café and reception areas is essential to the success of this position and the wider operation of the complex.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Provide responsive and prompt communication to all customer queries via a range of methods, including face to face, telephone social media, email and website queries.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Sports Centre Assistant to join the Operations Team within Edge Hill Sport. Edge Hill Sport is the university sports service run on behalf of Edge Hill University. Working in close partnership with the Students’ Union and the Academic Sport Department, its aim is to deliver a programme of activities in high quality facilities for the benefit of a wide range of stakeholders including students, staff, community, local schools and National Governing Bodies of Sport.

Working as part of a team, the Sports Centre Assistant will undertake a range of leisure operational duties such as:

• Lifeguarding the swimming pool, including prevention, intervention and rescues for users within their care.
• Ensuring programmed activities and services are available, including preparing, assembling, dismantling, and storing equipment such as trampolines, badminton nets and goal posts.
• Assisting with the opening and closing of the leisure facility.
• Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the environment.

About You

As Sports Centre Assistant, you will have:

• Previous experience working in a busy leisure environment, ideally as part of a lifeguard team.
• A current RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), or the ability to successfully achieve this qualification within one month of employment.
• An approachable and positive attitude, with the ability to develop professional relationships with customers.
• The ability to work independently, with strong time management skills and the ability to use your own initiative.

A practical assessment will be undertaken at interview to assess your ability to swim 50m in under 60 seconds and also tow a casualty while clothed within a set time limit, along with other tests. Candidates unable to pass the practical assessment will not progress beyond this point.

About the Role

As Lecturer in Practice Learning, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of nurses and midwives by ensuring students benefit from high-quality, engaging and supportive practice learning experiences. Working closely with healthcare, social care and third-sector partners, you will help develop and enhance practice learning environments that enable students to achieve their professional proficiencies and transition confidently into employment.

You will work collaboratively with programme teams and external partners to expand placement opportunities, support innovative approaches to teaching and assessment, and ensure our students are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence required for professional registration.

You will also contribute to the ongoing development and quality assurance of practice learning, helping to enhance the student experience and strengthen relationships with employers across the region.

As Lecturer in Practice Learning you will be a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and a passion for supporting students to succeed in practice learning environments. Whether your experience has been gained in clinical practice, education, practice learning, workforce development or a combination of these areas, you will bring a strong understanding of the factors that contribute to excellent student learning and professional development.

You will be an enthusiastic and approachable professional with excellent communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to work effectively with students, academic colleagues and external partners. You will have the ability to inspire, support and challenge learners while contributing to a positive and inclusive learning experience.
