Liverpool

Liverpool has been European Capital of Culture for 2008 and is a city with something for everyone. For sports fans, the city has two Premier League football teams and the famous Aintree Racecourse.

Landmarks such as the Liver Buildings and Albert Dock add architectural distinction, whilst for music fans there is the Beatles story and Cavern Club. A thriving arts scene can be found at the Walker and Tate Art galleries and FACT, an award-winning £10 million centre dedicated to showcasing the work of international artists working in film, video and new media.

Unusual attractions abound, from the Williamson Tunnels to yellow duckmarine tours. Trendy bars and clubs line the length of Mathew Street and fill Concert Square, with the whole city hosting a bustling nightlife.

Contemporary Manchester builds on a rich industrial heritage; attractions range from cathedrals and heritage centres to enthralling museums.

Shoppers will find the lure of the Trafford Centre hard to resist whilst football clubs don’t come much bigger than Manchester United and Manchester City. There’s plenty of other sports on offer, including greyhound racing, speedway and a velodrome.
