About the Role

The Estates Health and Safety Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective delivery of occupational health and safety across Estates Services at Edge Hill University. Working within a large and diverse Facilities Management department, the role supports the University’s overall health and safety strategy through the development, implementation and monitoring of Estates specific health and safety plans. These plans ensure consistent standards of compliance, risk management and best practice across all operational teams.

As an experienced health and safety professional, the postholder will provide authoritative advice and professional expertise to colleagues across Estates Services and the wider Facilities Management function. The role involves close collaboration with the University’s central health and safety team to ensure that local policies, procedures and systems align with corporate requirements and remain legally compliant and fit for purpose.

The postholder will have responsibility for advising on health and safety arrangements associated with maintenance and construction activity across the estate, including compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. This will include supporting both in house teams and externally contracted services, reviewing contractor documentation such as risk assessments, method statements and permits to work, and contributing to tender and pre contract health and safety evaluations.

The role also includes overseeing elements of accident investigation and reporting, monitoring health and safety performance trends, contributing to compliance focused working groups such as fire safety, asbestos and water hygiene, and supporting the maintenance of ISO 45001 accreditation. Through effective communication, leadership and engagement, the Estates Health and Safety Manager will play a key role in promoting a proactive and positive health and safety culture, driving continuous improvement and supporting safe, efficient service delivery.

As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to redeployment, please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any stage of the recruitment process if a suitable redeployee is identified.
