The successful applicant will be flexible and positive, with an excellent ability to lead and motivate others whilst managing change in the increasingly dynamic sector environment.

About the Role

We seek to appoint an outstanding, dynamic and inspirational professional to lead the Department of Women and Children’s Nurse Education, and who can take the department and its vision forward. 

This opportunity will enable the post-holder to contribute to our vision for developing graduates, practitioners and professionals, through an approach that is underpinned by a commitment to inclusivity. The post-holder will be responsible for the vision, strategic leadership and operational management related to all aspects of the Department of Women and Children’s Nurse Education, which includes responsibility for the overall leadership of curriculum development and design, recruitment & retention, student employability and quality management. Working closely with the other Heads of Nurse Education and Faculty Academic Management Team the post-holder will ensure that high quality and innovative learning and teaching is and continues to be delivered to students. The post-holder will develop strong working relationships with external healthcare providers. The post-holder will also be responsible for research engagement and development within the Department.

The role includes membership of the Faculty Senior Management Team of the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine, which has shared responsibility for the strategic leadership of the Faculty. The Faculty is made up of three schools: The School of Nursing, Midwifery & Allied Health (NMAH), The School of Applied Health & Social Care and Social Work (AHS&SW), and The Medical School. The Department of Women’s and Children’s Education sits within the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health. The School offers a wide range of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in all four fields of nursing, including dual registration, midwifery, and a nationally unique portfolio of programmes, including dual professions e.g. nurse & social work, nurse paramedic.    We aim to give our students an excellent learning experience with high levels of support across theory and practice learning.  We are actively developing students digital and online skills, advanced nursing skills as well as providing solid foundations in professionalism, leadership and research informed practice. 

We have recently opened a state-of-the-art Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre, to allow students to achieve realistic experience of care in a safe environment.

The Faculty has a growing national and international research profile which includes the cross-Faculty research theme Children, Young People and Families. Developing its research profile is a key focus for the Department.
