This is an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineering Lead to join the Data department within Digital, Data and Technology. This is a rare opportunity to shape a new data engineering capability from the ground up and play a leading role in the development of the University’s data warehouse and wider data platform.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Leading data warehouse design, standards and delivery
• Building pipelines, transformations and curated warehouse layers
• Driving data quality, resilience and operational support

You will have the chance to influence technical direction, establish standards and build high quality data solutions that support reporting, analytics and better decision making across the institution.

About You

As Data Engineering Lead, you will have:

• Experience in data engineering
• Strong skills in data integration, pipeline development, transformation, data warehousing and technical leadership
• Expertise in building scalable, reliable and well governed data solutions, with a strong grasp of data modelling, orchestration and modern cloud based data platforms
• Experience working with multiple source systems and integrating enterprise data into reusable reporting or analytical structures.
• Experience of working with business analysts, data managers, reporting teams and senior stakeholders to deliver data capability.
• Experience of Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, SQL based warehousing, orchestration tools or comparable technologies.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non technical audiences and support informed decision making.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Data Management Lead to join the Data department within Digital, Data and Technology. You will be joining a new Data function right at the start and play a real part in deciding how the service develops. 

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Working with academic and professional service areas to understand priority domains, how data is created and used, and where there are current issues with quality, consistency or timeliness 
• Defining and documented trusted datasets, including the business roles, definitions, scope, fields, calculations and quality expectations needed for reporting and analysis 
• Leading data quality improvement activity by identifying recurring issues, working with business areas on practical fixes, and supporting better stewardship and accountability for institutional data 

You will help shape the way the University defines trusted data, improves data quality, work with stakeholders and build confidence in institutional reporting and decision making. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a visible difference, bring structure to an important new area, and help create a service that will have a long-term value across the University.

About You

As Data Management Lead, you will have:

• Strong experience in data management, business analysis or information management within a complex organisation
• Good understanding of how data is created, defined and used, and be able to document trusted datasets, business rules and data quality issues clearly
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Confidence to run workshops, explain complex data issues and work across business, reporting and technical teams
• Understanding of ERP, CRM, student record, finance, HR or other enterprise systems and the data they hold.
