About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an early career specialist in medieval or early modern history to gain teaching experience, as well as supervisory experience (in the form of supervising third-year dissertations as well as acting as supervisor for Graduate Teaching Assistants who will be leading some seminars). The teaching schedule is arranged in order to allow you the chance to move your own research forward during the course of this position.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching the following modules:
  • First-year survey of the medieval period,
  • First-year survey of the early modern period,
  • Third-year module on the Vikings;
  • Teach half of two second-year modules on historical narratives in the your area of        expertise and a module in which students create public history projects,
  • Contribute 2-3 lectures to a third-year module on gender and power.
  • Serve as academic advisor to a group of approximately 20 students.
  • Supervise 4-6 third-year dissertations in the candidate’s area of expertise.

About You

As Lecturer in Medieval and Early Modern History you will have:

  • A research profile in medieval or early modern studies
  • The ability to teach across the medieval and early modern periods
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a collegial teaching team
  • A good rapport with students and the ability to positively and professionally encourage students
